The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission, Girl Scouts of Southeastern Wisconsin and MATC partnered to bring CampHERO to Milwaukee. CampHERO is a camp for high-school girls to provide hands on experience with careers that are considered "a man's job” including Firefighter, Police Officer and EMT. It is a week-long camp packed with activities such as foot pursuit, repelling from a three-story tower and CPR certification training. Not only will the girls have hands-on training on protective service careers, but they are exposed to life as a camper as they explore and sleep at Girls Scouts Camp Alice Chester in East Troy.
Last summer, 20 high-school girls participated in the camp and three of them (current seniors) are now pursuing careers in the protective services as a Fire Cadet or Police Aide.
